(1) Find an internship that involves working with
or in the interest of older adults. Internships cannot be paid and
should be approximately 150 hours (8-10 hours/week) over the course of
the semester. To find an internship, look into resources for older
adults in your community. Senior centers, nursing homes, and assisted
living facilities are often in need of volunteers and may already
have active volunteer programs. Meet with your gerontology advisor for
ideas and suggestions. Career Services is also a good resource. Some
possible internship sites are listed below.
(2) To register for an internship you must work
with a faculty member on the gerontology minor committee. Internships
require approval of a faculty member and the appropriate paperwork must
be submitted. You cannot register for an internship through
CentralPipeline.
