At the graduate level, the Department offers the
Masters of Arts in Psychology with options for a General Psychology
program or a specialization in Community Psychology or Health
Psychology. The graduate
program can be designed to prepare students for a career in the field
of human services or as preparation for further graduate study. The
Master's Program is primarily intended for part-time students with
most courses offered in the evening. A small number of full-time students
can be admitted.

The General Psychology program is intended to provide
students with a broad based degree in psychology, planned with the
assistance of a graduate advisor. The specialization in Community
Psychology emphasizes primary prevention and trains students to be
active practitioners in the prevention field.
Both programs require 36 semester hours of course
work including a thesis. A common core of 6 courses is required for
all students. Students in the General Psychology program option then
choose an additional 6 courses with the assistance of their graduate
advisor, while those in the Community Psychology specialization take
additional courses in the prevention area.

Admission to Graduate
Programs
For admission to the MA Program, applicants must hold a BA/BS degree
with a minimum of 18 semester hours in psychology. Courses in statistics
and research methods, with a minimum grade of B, are required. A minimum
undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 and the three letters of
recommendation are required. Applicants who meet grade point average
requirements but who do not have sufficient background in psychology
may be admitted but required to take undergraduate psychology courses
as prerequisites for taking graduate level psychology courses.
In your personal statement you should discuss
your professional goals, any specific experiences you have had that
have helped prepare you for our program such as research or
training, and include any additional information that may assist the
Graduate Admissions Committee in reviewing your application.
All applications must be sent as a complete application package to
the Graduate Admissions Office in order to be reviewed for
admission. A complete application package includes the following:

3. Three letters of reference (at least two from academic sources)
4. Personal statement
The application
deadline is December 1 for Spring admission and April 25 for
Fall admission.
