Welcome to the PsychNotes Website!!
PsychNotes, a regular publication of the Psychology Department at Central Connecticut State University, is intended to inform members of the Psychology community (faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni) about current happenings in the Department.
To keep up with the changes on this website, we've made it easy to use a free service called Mind-it, a free, Web-based software tool that automatically sends you an e-mail whenever a web page you've selected has been updated. The instructions for using Mind-it are at the end of this newsletter.
As Chairperson of the Psychology Department, I extend to
faculty, students and staff a cordial welcome to the Spring 2003 Semester.
I am available to you in Room 212-Marcus White Hall.
During my office hours you can contact me by phone ([860] 832-3108) or
via e-mail (donis@ccsu.edu).
This
Spring Semester the Psychology Department is once again at full strength with 20
full time faculty and18 part time faculty.
Dr. Steve Horowitz has returned from his Sabbatical
Leave this semester.
Dr. Elizabeth Robinson (a Fulbright Professor from
England--Psy 430) and Dr. Laurie Ottoson (Psy 365), join the ranks of Adjunct
Faculty. After one semester
absence, Karen Miranda returns to the department (Psy 362, Psy 448).
After several weeks in Room 203 in Marcus White due
to renovations, the Psychology Office has moved back to its permanent location
in Room 211. Adjunct faculty will
now have the use of Room 203.
Psychology Achievement Test:
As
of Spring 2003 Semester, all psychology majors will be required to take a
“Standardized Psychology Achievement Test” in order to graduate.
The test will be administered according to the following guidelines:
· All students
with Senior standing (86+ credits) will be eligible to take the test
·
The test will be administered two (2) times per semester; however, this
Spring Semester there will be an additional session to accommodate an expected
higher demand. The dates will be
posted outside of my office, Room 212-Marcus White Hall, the first week of
classes every semester
·
Eligible students will register to take the test with the department
secretary, Room 213-Marcus White Hall, at least one week before the scheduled
exam date
We
strongly recommend that you plan ahead and register to take the test with enough
time to avoid being denied graduation because of this requirement.

It
is important that you meet with your academic advisor to plan your academic
program at CCSU, to prepare your class schedule, to ask any questions that you
may have, or to assist you in planning your future career.
To help you get in touch with your advisor, a directory of psychology
faculty that contains their telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, and office
hours has been placed in our web page this Spring Semester (advisor
list).
If you don’t have an advisor, please see the secretary to be assigned
one.
This
year the CSU Psychology Research Day will be held at Western Connecticut State
University on May 9. If you want to
present your research projects at this conference, consult with your professors
early so that you are well prepared and don’t run out of time.
All
Psychology majors are encouraged to join the Psychology Club.
The club meets several times each semester, and sponsors a number of
events including speakers and an annual trip to a psychology conference.
The President of the Psychology Club is Jennifer Levine (e-mail: JenSnow88@aol.com),
Vice President is Erin Bryll (e-mail: pokey3656@msn.com)
and the Treasurer is Jessica Mugartegui (e-mail: Mugartegui_Je@students.ccsu.edu).
The Faculty Advisor to the club is Dr. James Conway (office: Room
215-Marcus White Hall, phone: (860) 832-3107, e-mail: ConwayJ@ccsu.edu).
Psychology

Using Mind-it to keep current with PsychNotes
The instructions below will tell you how to set this service up for PsychNotes -- And remember, you only need to do this ONCE. After you do, Mind-it will send an e-mail to notify you of updates to the site, and the e-mail message will contain a hyperlink you can click on to visit PsychNotes.
(1) Type in your e-mail address in the box below where it says "Enter email
address".
(2) Click the "Mind-it" button and you will be taken to the Mind-it web site.
(3) You will be asked for a password; YOU DO NOT NEED TO GIVE THEM YOUR CCSU
PASSWORD -- You should create your own password especially for Mind-it.
Then, just follow instructions (you don't need to do much more).
(4) Wait and your browser will automatically take you back to the PsychNotes
web site.
