Welcome to the PsychNotes Website!!
PsychNotes, a regular publication of the Psychology Department at Central Connecticut State University, is intended to inform members of the Psychology community (faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni) about current happenings in the Department.
To keep up with the changes on this website, we've made it easy to use a free service called Mind-it, a free, Web-based software tool that automatically sends you an e-mail whenever a web page you've selected has been updated. The instructions for using Mind-it are at the end of this newsletter.
As chair of the Psychology Department, I hope that this
semester is going well for faculty, students and staff.
I am available in the chair’s office, Room 212-Marcus White Hall.
Phone: (860) 832-3108. E-mail: donis@ccsu.edu
This Spring Semester the Psychology Department is at full strength with 20 full time faculty and18 part time faculty. Drs. Chavarro and Sherman have resumed their full time teaching duties. Dr. Chavarro is available for advising and consultation in Barnard Hall Room 012 (832-3117), and Dr. Sherman in Marcus White Room 203 (832-1646).
Registration for the Fall 2002 Semester will continue to be on-line; however, there is a very important change. To be able to register on-line students will be required to provide an alternate personal identification number (PIN), which can be obtained from the student’s advisor. The purpose of this new policy is to ensure that students meet with their advisors before registering for courses.
This year the Psychology Department at Central Connecticut
State University will host the 5th Annual Psychology Day Conference.
The Psychology Day Conference is a free, day-long event that will feature
scholarly and social events for both faculty and students. We will start with a
morning poster session that will highlight the research, internship, and other
accomplishments of undergraduate and graduate students from the psychology
programs of the four CSU universities. A complimentary catered lunch will be
served to faculty and student presenters. In the afternoon, there will be oral
presentations from specially selected students.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Joshua Aronson from the
Department of Applied Psychology at New York University. Dr. Aronson studies the
psychology of stigma – the way human beings respond to negative stereotypes
about their racial or gender group. Following the keynote speaker, several
students will receive awards for outstanding posters and presentations.
