Welcome to the PsychNotes Website!!
PsychNotes, a regular publication of the Psychology Department at Central Connecticut State University, is intended to inform members of the Psychology community (faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni) about current happenings in the Department.
To keep up with the changes on this website, we've made it easy to use a free service called Mind-it, a free, Web-based software tool that automatically sends you an e-mail whenever a web page you've selected has been updated. The instructions for using Mind-it are at the end of this newsletter.

that lets you explore alternative measures of intelligence. Check out the
various IQ tests listed at:

Need Some Money for School?
There
is a new website: www.freescholarships.com
that is giving away daily
scholarships of $10,000! This is essentially a drawing; it is not based
on grades or financial need. In addition, there are monthly drawings for
$25,000 and quarterly drawings for $50,000 scholarships. Why the free
money? Well they want to get some information about you--demographics,
consumer interests, etc.--via a questionnaire, which they then sell to other
businesses. If you can stand the spam that you'll probably get, then its
probably worth the effort check out their website. They also claim that
you can choose to opt out of the information-selling process, i.e., keep your
info private, and still be eligible for the scholarships.
Here's
some money specifically for Graduate Students. The CCSU Foundation is
having another round of scholarships for full and part-time graduate students.
Eligibility requirements:
1) Completed 15 hrs of graduate study at CCSU
2) Have a GPA of 3.50 or higher
3) Submit 2 letters of recommendation from people who can
attest to your
participation and leadership in the
University and/or community service
activities
4) Submit 500-1000 word essay entitled Personal Growth
through
Education.
Copies of the application materials can be obtained from the Graduate
office or from your advisor. Application Deadline: March 1, 2000

An
opportunity to serve. CCSU
runs a group called the Tutor Corps at New Britain High School. These
are CCSU students who tutor ninth grade students who are at-risk of not
completing high school. These are students who WANT to receive tutoring. The
Tutor Corps desperately needs more CCSU students to participate. For more
